Dub
The action of conferring a knighthood by the touch of a sword; to invest with a dignity or a new title. The ceremony was part of the world of homage and lordship, the dubbing being done by a lord. At the ceremony, the new knight was given the arms and weapons appropriate to his new status. The AnNor. word for the ceremony was *adoubement.
